  • Hard work, team spirit and perseverance are the qualities American Venture Magazine decided to honor in its annual ranking of the most promising start-ups. This year over 350 emerging companies took part of the selection process, out of which 33 finalists were chosen for their teamwork, vision, market leadership and technological achievements.

These venture-funded winners had the ability to make crucial developments with energy and passion, under a focused leadership and toward a common goal. The selected companies cover diverse industries, from Technology Exchange to Medical Devices, and others.

This issue is a special recognition of the achievements of those teambuilding companies. Please see the full list of American Venture Magazine’s most promising start-ups of 2008, including company profiles and contact information.

In this issue, you'll also learn more about “Hiring Trends 2008.” Vikki Pachera’s column explores what changes employers may want to consider to compete more effectively in today’s market and what professions are most in demand.

And as that market gets warmer, salespeople are trained to ask customers what they want in product offerings. However, only asking customers what they want and then giving it to them, means missing a big opportunity. In his article, "The Four Ways to Redefine Sales," business and technology expert Dan Burrus reveals the real key to spectacular sales.

Luke Skurman, the 27-year-old CEO of College Prowler, a VC backed publishing company, delivers the essentials needed for a start-up to grow in “5 to Thrive: Essentials for a Start-up CEO”.

The article "5 Ways to Make a Name in Business on a Small Budget,” provides strategic, budget-friendly ways for small business owners to create visibility. Suzanne Bates, president of Bates Communications, talks about strategies for speaking to groups, appearing in the media and getting in front of target audiences.

Finally, in our final issue of 2007, we want to thank you, our readers, for joining us in the search of visions realized. Each year brings new challenges and we at American Venture Magazine wish you breakthrough results.

    Sincerely,

    Florencia Lazaroni, Editor
